Challenge

Climate change is happening. And humans need to get a handle on it, fast. The solution won’t happen overnight; we need to equip future generations with the knowledge and drive to build a sustainable future.

That’s why the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC) asked Co-op Academies Trust to create a set of resources that would:

– Increase pupils’ understanding of environmental, social and economic challenges.

– Teach them about renewable energy.

– Inspire them to take a key STEM subject at GCSE.

– Inform them of the career prospects linked to each subject.

Co-op Academies Trust knew the facts that would spark inspiration in 11-14-year-olds; what they didn’t know was how to bring this information to life.

Enter HUB.

Solution

This was the first project of its kind for Co-op Academies Trust – so we had only the brand guidelines to use as a reference. This wasn’t a problem. Having worked with us for four years already, our client knew HUB could be trusted with a dash of creative freedom.

Our creatives produced vibrant and attention-grabbing materials for each year group. Our content team collaborated on scripts, storyboards and questionnaires for Q&As. On location in Manchester, our photographers captured Belle Vue Academy whilst under construction and filmed inside Co-op Group’s impressive HQ.

It’s times like this when HUB’s integration thrives.

HUB's work covered several mediums:

  • Several lessons each for Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils
  • A unique slide deck for each lesson
  • PDF teacher notes
  • Handouts
  • Videos from Co-op Power, Co-op Logistics, Sir Robert McAlpine, and Co-op Engineering

Results

Our talented team translated the skills they would normally apply for commercial clients, into a non-commercial project.

The resources launched in October 2022, and they’re available on the CEC website for secondary schools across the country to access.

For our team, this project was a chance for us to do something different and effect change on a bigger scale. For HUB, this was an opportunity for us to prove our capabilities and show our client the true power of a full-service agency.

We created and produced:

  • 6 videos
  • 6 lesson plans
  • 3 teacher briefs
  • 3 presentations, totalling 78 individual slides
