Say hello to our latest intern, Poppy! Poppy has spent the last three weeks getting to grips with all elements of marketing for one of our key clients, from SEO keyword and content research to website stock management, data analysis and competitor research. Working across our performance marketing, web development and data teams, she really dove straight into the deep end of what makes an integrated team tick!
We sat down with her to ask her about her experience at HUB.
Why did you choose to intern at HUB?
I chose to intern at HUB because I wanted to experience what it’s really like to work in an integrated marketing agency that handles a variety of clients and projects. HUB stood out to me because of its strong reputation for blending strategy with creativity, and I was drawn to how collaborative and forward-thinking the team seemed. I wanted to learn from professionals who are passionate about marketing and see how different roles come together to deliver results.
What were you most excited about?
I was most excited to get hands-on experience in different areas of marketing and see which parts I enjoyed most. I wanted to move across the departments whether that meant helping with social media content, researching audiences, or contributing creative ideas in team meetings. I was also looking forward to seeing how agencies manage real clients/deadlines whilst also expanding my knowledge on systems such as Excel.
What do you think of HUB’s culture?
HUB has a welcoming and open culture. Everyone on the team is approachable and genuinely willing to share their knowledge. It’s a fast-paced environment, but there’s also a real emphasis on collaboration and creativity, people listen to ideas no matter who they come from. It felt like a place that values both learning and innovation, which made it a great environment for an intern.
Has anything surprised you while you’ve been here?
I was surprised by just how much variety there is in agency work. I didn’t realise how closely different departments work together, or how much planning and data analysis goes into creative marketing decisions. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much responsibility I was given early on, allowing me to create my own data presentations and gain insightful feedback on how I can learn even further.
What will you take away from the experience?
I’ll take away a much clearer understanding of how an integrated marketing agency operates and the different roles that make it all work. I’ve developed skills in research, content planning, and digital marketing tools, but I’ve also learned how important teamwork and communication are in a creative environment.
Most importantly, the experience has helped me figure out which areas of marketing I want to explore further in the future. A special thank you to [Senior Account Manager] Abigail Hearle who developed my timetable which allowed me to have this brilliant experience.
